The Segarra in Catalonia

The Segarra understands the lands that constitute the plateau that separates the basin of the Segre of those of the Llobregat, Gaià and Francolí, and it represents an entrance to the lands of Catalan west, an advancement of the lands pre-pirenaicas. Their altitude moves between the 500 and 800 m. This plateau is characterized to be in passing area between the coast and the interior and between the northern districts and the southern ones, giving place to a specific type of landscape that it appears perfectly represented along the dividing one created. If we should define the Segarra with a single sentence, we could surely say that the Segarra is the Catalan presenter's beginning, a group of perfectly differentiated districts of the group. From the mediterranean one, the step toward the west Catalonia, is made through the Segarra. When we are amid the lands segarrencas, we can see perfectly that we are in another place, arrive from where you arrive. The change of landscapes is evident for any person with a minimum of sensibility. The transformation of the environment is progressive and palpable: prevalence of the calms and plateaus like characteristic of the landscape, he/she witnesses constant of of cultivation, with the corresponding margins, the domain of the stone in the field, in the cabins, in the towns... In the whole Segarra we will find perspectives, distant horizons, the constant castle-town.

The rivers

We could say that we have four rivers in the flowing Segarra of the Segre, that is to say, the fact of running parallel and guided presenter:

Ondara, Llobregos, Sió and Cercavins are the four rivers that are in the Segarra

The Climate

With regard to the climate, the Segarra offers some very different characteristics, in spite of its vicinity to the mediterranean sea and the scarce variations of height. Their situation determines that the plateau doesn't receive too much influence of the humid winds.
In contrast, the summers they spread to be hot, even when the heat usually is not too strong due to the action of the winds.
The annual medium temperature of Cervera is of 13º. Another characteristic of the slope of the Segre is, the winter, the presence of the fog that, coming from the Plane of Urgell, frequently leave in the plateaus of the Segarra. Some years it is very persistent and it is not strange that during days and days it is an element more than the landscape
